Overview
If your Kevo lock is beeping repeatedly, the sound pattern is an important clue. Repeated beeps usually indicate either a mechanical bolt issue or low batteries. This article explains how to identify the cause based on what you observe and what to do next.
Identify the Beep Pattern
Before troubleshooting, note when the beeping occurs:
- Beeping occurs while trying to lock the door → likely a bolt jam or alignment issue
- Beeping occurs after locking or unlocking, often with a flashing red LED → likely low batteries
Issue 1: Beeping While Locking the Door
What This Means
If the lock beeps multiple times while attempting to lock, the bolt is likely unable to fully extend. This usually happens when:
- The door is not fully closed
- The door or strike plate is misaligned
- The bolt cannot travel freely into the strike
This condition is commonly referred to as a bolt jam.
What to Do
- Make sure the door is fully closed.
- Check that the deadbolt aligns cleanly with the strike plate.
- Inspect the strike (the hole in the door frame) to ensure it is deep enough for the bolt to fully extend.
- Adjust the strike plate or door alignment as needed.
⚠️ Mechanical alignment issues require physical adjustments to the door, frame, or strike plate.
Issue 2: Beeping After Locking or Unlocking
What This Means
If the lock beeps five times after locking or unlocking and shows a flashing red LED on the front of the lock, the battery level is critically low.
What to Do
- Replace all four AA alkaline batteries in the battery pack as soon as possible.
⚠️ Do not mix old and new batteries. Replace all batteries at the same time.
Quick Reference
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Recommended Action |
|---|---|---|
| Beeping during lock attempt | Bolt jam / alignment issue | Adjust door or strike alignment |
| 5 beeps after lock/unlock + red LED | Low batteries | Replace AA batteries |
