Question:
What types of hardware are supported with Kevo?
Answer:
Kevo supports the following products only:
- Kevo 1st Generation
- Kevo 2nd Generation (Kevo 2)
- Kevo Convert
- Kevo Contemporary
- Kevo Weiser
- Baldwin Evolved
- Kevo Plus Internet-to-Bluetooth Gateway
NOTE: The Kevo app only supports Bluetooth for wireless communication with Kwikset, Baldwin and Weiser locks. Z-wave and keypad locks from Kwikset, Baldwin or Weiser are not supported with the Kevo app.
Question:
What app do I need to use now that UniKey is supporting Kevo instead of Kwikset (ASSA ABLOY)?
Answer:
"No new app is needed. The existing Kevo mobile apps will continue working with Kevo locks. Users of the Kevo Plus remote lock/unlock capability are required to have an active subscription ($12 per year) for that feature to continue working. Go to mykevo.unikey.com to set up your subscription."
Issue:
Kevo lock front LED remains continuously lit (red, amber, or pink).
Solution:
Remove the battery pack from the Kevo lock, wait 30 seconds and re-insert the battery pack. If the problem persists, the lock needs to be factory reset.
Issue:
User mentioned a "red ring" but does not whether it is on their lock or on their Kevo Plus gateway.
Solution:
If the "red ring" is happening with the Kevo Plus gateway, refer to Kevo Plus Gateway Stopped Working.
If the "red ring" is happening with the Kevo lock, this indicates that the batteries are in a critical state and need to be replaced. Only use AA alkaline batteries, preferably name brand ones like Duracell or Energizer. Kevo locks with critical batteries can be unlocked with the Kevo app but they will not lock.
Issue:
User mentioned rechargeable batteries or “batteries are still charged”.
Solution:
Rechargeable batteries will NOT work properly and the lock will behave unpredictably. Only use AA alkaline batteries, preferably name brand ones like Duracell or Energizer.
Issue:
How do I reboot my Kevo lock?
Solution:
To reboot a Kevo lock, remove the battery pack from the lock, wait 10 seconds and re-insert the battery pack.
Issue:
When opening the Kevo app, all lock names are gray and the lock dashboard will not open.
Solution:
To resolve this issue, sign out and then sign into the mobile app again.
Issue:
User wants to cancel their Kevo subscription.
Answer:
Go to mykevo.unikey.com and click on the “View your subscription here” link at the top of the page to manage your subscription.

Issue:
A user says “How do I see what email I am using with Kevo?” or “How do I know what email address I have connected to the lock?”
Answer:
In the Kevo app, open the settings screen. The app will show the email address for your Kevo account in “Edit My Account”. If you wish to change the email address for your Kevo account, sign in to the www.mykevo.unikey.com web portal, go to the Profile page, and use the Account Actions menu to select "Change Primary Email." Follow the instructions provided to update your account email.
Question:
I need to configure my Kevo lock to use a new WiFi network.
Answer:
Kevo locks do not connect to WiFi. Kevo locks communicate wirelessly using Bluetooth. The optional Kevo Plus gateway provides the ability to lock/unlock your Kevo lock when you are away from home (whether miles away from your home or even if you are in another country). The Kevo Plus must be plugged into your network switch, hub or router. It communicates with the Kevo lock using Bluetooth.
Question:
User is asking about purchasing replacement Kevo locks, gateways, fobs, or parts.
Answer:
“Sorry, but UniKey does not manufacture and sell any hardware. Kwikset manufactured the Kevo, Weiser and Baldwin Evolved locks, Kevo Plus gateways and Kevo fobs. Kwikset stopped manufacturing Kevo hardware several years ago, and all Kevo products are out of warranty now. If a user wishes to replace defective Kevo hardware or buy new ones, recommend they check with eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or similar.”
Question:
User asks about the maximum number of eKeys or users that can access their lock.
Answer:
“Although there is no limit to the number of eKeys, or users, that can access your lock, exceeding 50 eKeys can make the system go slower.”
Question:
User is asking about disabling Touch-To-Open on their Kevo lock.
Answer:
“Kevo locks were designed for convenience for users and the Touch-To-Open feature is enabled at all times and cannot be disabled.”

Issue:
User asks for how to use Apple Wallet with their Kevo powered lock.
Answer:
Kevo locks do not work with Apple Wallet. The Kevo family of locks were created many years prior to Apple supporting Near Field Communication (NFC) so that a pass in Apple Wallet can work with the NFC hardware in a smart lock.
