Overview
In some cases, a software update may fail immediately after enrolling a lock that has been factory reset. This occurs due to limitations in certain older factory firmware versions.
When this happens, the Kevo app will display an error while attempting to connect to the lock during the update process.
Affected Locks and Firmware Versions
The following lock models and factory firmware versions are impacted:
Kevo 1st generation – Firmware version 1.0.14
Kevo 2nd generation – Firmware versions 1.1.6 and 1.2.13
Baldwin Evolved – Firmware version 1.0.1
How to Successfully Complete the Firmware Update
If you have one of the affected factory lock firmware versions, follow these steps:
Return to the Lock Dashboard in the Kevo app.
Wait for the lock’s current status to fully display (e.g. locked or unlocked).
Navigate to the Software Update section again.
Proceed with the firmware update.
After the lock status has fully synchronized in the dashboard, the firmware/software update should start successfully.
Important Reminder
Factory resetting a lock should only be performed as a last resort. Resetting removes all lock settings and will require re-enrollment and firmware updates.
