DOES YOUR LOCK NEED TO BE FACTORY RESET?
The 2nd generation Kevo locks include Baldwin Evolved and Kwikset Contemporary locks.
To confirm that your 2nd generation Kevo lock needs to be factory reset, do the following:
- Touch the exterior of the lock below the LED bar (see attached picture).
- Does the LED bar light up or does it do nothing?
- If nothing happens, remove the battery pack, wait at least 15 seconds and re-insert the battery pack.
- The lock should beep and the LED bar on the lock front should light up.
- If the lock does not beep, the batteries need to be replaced.
- If the lock beeps but the LED bar does not light up, the lock needs to be factory reset.
FACTORY RESETTING YOUR 2ND GENERATION KEVO LOCK
Factory resetting your Kevo lock is a last resort for trying to get the lock operational again. It can be VERY tricky to do properly, so watch the demonstration video on YouTube and pay very close attention to the instructions and do each step EXACTLY as described:
- Start by removing the battery pack.
- Press the Program button on the back of the lock 2-3 times.
- Press and hold the A and B buttons on the back of the lock.
- While pressing and holding the A+B buttons, insert the battery pack and wait for a full 12-seconds. This is the most difficult step to do correctly because you must hold the A+B buttons down and continue to do so for the full 12 seconds.
- Release the A+B buttons.
- If you have triggered the Factory Reset correctly, the lock will beep and after several seconds the front LED1 ring/bar will cycle. If that does not happen, start over with step 1.
- When the front LEDs stop, the factory reset has completed.
- Using the Kevo mobile app, tap on the + to add your lock back to your account. Use a new lock name if you did not delete your troublesome lock from your account already.
- When prompted, complete the software update for the lock.
- From the lock dashboard, perform lock / unlock operation to confirm the lock is functioning correctly. If locking and unlocking are not working and/or the Kevo app reports a "bolt jam" error, re-handing the lock is required.
- Re-send eKeys to any users who had access to the lock in the past.
1 NOTE: If the exterior LED ring/bar consistently does nothing in step 6, it’s likely that you are not pressing the A+B buttons fully. If you are doing it correctly, but the factory reset does not start, this confirms a deeper electronics board or connection failure.
